YouTube Provides Tips on How to Come up with Video Ideas

YouTube has produced a new list of techniques to generate content ideas, which may help you think about your next video. While some of them are likely thoughts you have previously had, it is worth recording them and thinking whether they can help you with your creative process.

Here’s an overview of YouTube’s tips.

Problem/Solution

YouTube suggests that you set a timer and spend 15 minutes detailing every difficulty your audience has.  You can then spend another 15 minutes discussing ideas or approaches for your content to solve those issues.

Considering your audience’s pain concerns is an important approach to increase appeal, and perceiving things from their perspective may result in a quick victory in your content brainstorming process.

Tap into trends

An easy one: Use tools like YouTube Studio’s ‘Trends’ and Google Trends to guide your approach. The key in this regard is to identify a distinct angle depending on your channel and/or content strategy.

Audience polling

According to YouTube, you may utilise your channel’s community postings to poll your audience on what they want to see, or you might organise a live Q&A session to get input.

I suppose the problem here for lesser channels is receiving enough responses, but if you have a huge enough following, this could be a useful feedback mechanism.

Use search data

YouTube proposes using the search bar’s auto-suggest tool to highlight interesting ideas.

Enter a keyword relevant to your niche and watch what long-tail keywords come up.  Explore the ‘People Also Ask’ parts of Google search results.  “These are direct indicators of audience curiosity.

Mind Map

Finally, YouTube proposes conducting a “mind mapping” activity to identify opportunities.

Begin with your primary niche or channel theme in the centre.  Sub topics should be explored first, followed by specific questions, concepts, or formats connected to those sub-topics.

This type of activity can help you broaden your thinking, while also delving further into the value that each piece brings to your audience and using that as another source of inspiration.

Finally, YouTube recommends that you use the “Inspiration” tab in YouTube Studio to assist direct your ideas.
